Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee may best be known for its breweries and gritty industry, but it’s also a city that’s remaking itself to capitalize on its scenic waterways. Lake Michigan borders the city to the east, while the RiverWalk district’s promenades and restaurants bustle during the summer. Milwaukeeans are often viewed as being the descendants of German immigrants, but African-Americans make up an equal portion of the city’s inhabitants. Milwaukee loves a party, from its Summerfest music festival to German Fest, Irish Fest, Armenian Fest, Greek Fest, et al. The Wisconsin State Fair takes place in nearby West Allis, and more than 350,000 cream puffs are sold during this Dairyland celebration. Don’t miss venerable Milwaukee institutions on Old World Third Street, like Mader’s Restaurant and Usinger’s sausage. Sanford Restaurant, founded by chef Sanford D’Amato, is considered to be one of the best in the Midwest. Local microbreweries and brew pubs satisfy contemporary taste sensibilities while connecting the city to its brewing past.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed on Nov. 20, 2008 by JONESY1
MUST READ!!! I GIVE THE STEAKS THEMSELVES A 5...They were moist, tender and simply delicious. Hiowever, either make your own skillet gravy with leftover oil drippings (like I did second time) or buy it canned. Also, patties are very greasy so drain and even blot with paper towels. After browning in skillet, I poured gravy over them and baked them in oven instead of finishing them off in pan. These were great!

The Best Chicken Soup Ever

Reviewed on Nov. 19, 2008 by KATHY5048
I have never made homemade chicken soup. I've always enjoyed others. It was quite chilly today so I thought I'd give it a try. It was fabulous!!! I did add a bit of salt to it though and simmered it for about 4 hours. Didn't get a whole lot of meat off of the whole chicken but it was sufficient. Served the soup with a a salad and crescent rolls. The bow tie pasta was adorable. My husband thought it was a unique touch! We will definitely add this soup to our favorites list!

Lentil Soup with Lemon

Reviewed on Nov. 19, 2008 by violinnm
We had this soup for dinner one night this week and loved it. The ingredients play very well together. We served it with homemade breadsticks. Thanks for a great new recipe!
