Colorado

Colorado became a state in 1876, one-hundred years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, thus earning it the nickname the Centennial State. The name Colorado comes from the Rio Colorado, which in Spanish means, “the red-colored river.” Colorado exists on the boundary between the Southwest, the Mountain States, and the Central Plains. It is the home of the Great Rocky Mountains, but Colorado also marks the spot where the magnificent peaks flatten out into the wide-open rangelands of the Great Plains. What was once bison country is now big beef country. Historically, the stews, roasts, and one-pot dishes that grew up on the plains of Colorado made use of wild game and freshwater fish, reflecting the diet of early prospectors, explorers, and Native Americans. Today, there is also a considerable and well-established organic food industry in Colorado; and on the Western Slope of the Rockies, an impressive wine industry has emerged.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed on Nov. 20, 2008 by IRISHDAUD
Very good but I made so many changes, that it really wasn't the same recipe. I added 3 cans of COC, and covered the chicken with chicken broth (then added water as needed). I also added garlic powder, salt, pepper & celery flakes. I then used drop biscuits with Bisquick and dropped 7 biscuits in the mixture about 30 minutes prior. As well as 1/3 C of frozen peas. It was really good!

Country Quiche

Reviewed on Nov. 20, 2008 by April MacInnes
My husband and I were very pleased with this quiche. This was the first quiche I have ever made. With my grandmothers handed down pastry crust and this quiche I am sure to make this one again. Thank you for a good first time quiche.

Banana Angel Food Cake

Reviewed on Nov. 20, 2008 by April MacInnes
I tried this recipe and used baking soda instead of baking powder. It came out really good looking and not moist like others said. I did not care for the taste though. My husband thought it was pretty good but I do not think I am going to make this one again. I gave it a good try and it worked but my taste buds thought diffrent.
