Browsing for recipes
How do I use the Allrecipes Navigational Tabs?
The navigation tabs located at the top of each Allrecipes page are there to help you find exactly what you are looking for. Below are descriptions of each to make searching easy:
Browse Recipes
This tab will take you to the Recipes Main page where you can search for recipes
using the “Browse Deeper” column on the left side of the page.
Rotating Topics
The second tab from the left will change periodically in order to direct Allrecipes users to
recipes and/or cooking information we think you’ll love.
Recipe Exchange
Reach out to your fellow Allrecipes home cooks for recipe recommendations as well as
answers to your cooking questions! Recipe Exchange lets you connect with other home cooks whether
it be to ask questions, or supply them with the answers they are looking for.

Holidays & Events
You will be conveniently directed straight to a page where you can search all Holidays & Events
recipes. Go to Holidays & Events recipes now!
Rotating Holidays & Events
This is similar to the regular “Holidays & Events” tab except this tab will feature the most
seasonally relevant holiday (e.g. Memorial Day featured in May or Christmas in December) —recipes
for the coming holiday are just one click away!
Recipe Search
Allrecipes wants to make it as easy as possible for you to find what you are looking for, so
we have created several ways to search for recipes to ensure that you do! You can use the search
field at the top of any page to perform any of the searches listed below:
Recipe Search: Making sure the orange pointer is next to “Recipes”
(if it’s not, simply click on “Recipes” and the pointer will move), enter your query
in the search field, then click either “Recipes” or “Search” to be taken
to a results page.
Ingredient Search: Search for recipes that contain the ingredients you want! Enter up
to four ingredients, all separated by commas, then click “Ingredients” above the search field to see
your results.
You can also click on “Ingredients” above the search field to be directed to an empty
Ingredient Search page. There, you can enter up to four ingredients you
want to use, as well as up to four ingredients you don’t want. (This is a great tool for those with food
allergies.) Click “Go” for results.
More Searches: To use “More Searches,” simply enter your query, then hover your cursor over
“More Searches” located above the search field to make search options appear. Click on one of the
following to execute your search:
- Advanced Search allows you to search for recipes by ingredient, or recipe features such as cooking method, time, special considerations, and submitter. For the best search results, we suggest keeping the ingredients you want to a minimum as well as only selecting your high priority secondary search criterion. If your results are too broad, narrow by adding additional criteria until you find what you are looking for.
- Glossary Search allows you to search our food encyclopedia containing descriptions of more than 4,000 cooking terms and ingredients.
- Collection Search results will show related “collections,” or groups of recipes (e.g. BBQ Recipes, Cookie Recipes, Chicken Recipes, etc.), so you can browse the entire category.
Note: You can also conveniently view all types of searches on a single page by clicking directly on “More Searches.” There, you will find descriptions for each search type, as well as a link to execute your chosen search.
How do I search for advice articles?
It’s easy: expert cooking advice is just a few clicks away! To search for advice articles, enter your query in the search field, then click “Articles.” You will be directed to a results page with articles that relate to your query.
Recipes for special dietary requirements
Our Healthy Living collection offers recipes designed for particular dietary requirements: click on the Recipes link at the
top of the page. We also have nutrition information listed on each recipe page so you can see if that recipe suits your
dietary needs. If you need more information than is in the box on the recipe page, click on View Detailed Nutrition to view
more information.
Daily Recipes
To begin, click on Daily Recipes on the Recipes page. To see more Daily Recipes for any collection listed (i.e. Appetizers
and Snacks), click the More Daily Recipes listed to the right of the recipe collection heading. To view a featured Daily
Recipe, simply click on the recipe’s title. To view the Daily Recipes from a previous date, simply enter the date of
your choice and select “Go!” at the top of the page.
Recipes no longer on the site
While we always have member recipes on the site, we also partner with trusted companies to offer their recipes on the site for
certain periods of time. If you see a recipe that has been submitted by a food company that you may want to use again, save
that recipe to your Recipe Box, or print it for future use.
Recipe description cuts off in search results.
Think of it as a sneak-peek! Our recipe search results pages are meant to give users a convenient, at-a-glance look, but
the full recipe description is just a click away. You can get there via the “more” button at the end of the text
provided.
I can’t submit an image from search results.
Clicking on the recipe title will land you on the recipe page where you can then click on the link in the empty image box that
says “submit a photo.” So, keep going—we love seeing what our cooks in the field come up with!
What are the highlighted search results?
Those are links to Allrecipes advertising partners that we believe are complementary to our users’ needs.
